Host/Parking Crew

The Host/Parking Crew will have a crucial role in making participants' arrival easy and straightforward. The Host will be the first person people see when driving in, and the 5 other crew members will manage loading zones and parking lots (only one open at a time) and will patrol (on their bike) the roads to make sure no one is parking where they are not supposed to.You will be given instructions and a radio before you get out there.

During packet pickup in the Reg Area, welcome the riders, perform rider verification activities, pull packets sorted numerically, and communicate very general ride information.

Merchandise Support
4:00 PM - 7:00 PM
Duties include interacting with customers, and answering questions about merchandise based on a day-of introduction. Friendliness, approachability and multi-tasking skills are very helpful. Physical needs will include standing, bending and light lifting.
Event Tear Down
5:45 PM - 7:00 PM
Help us tear down when the race is done! The quicker we get it done, the quicker we can all go relax and enjoy our last night at Wente! Please wear closed toe shoes, and work gloves if you have some. Meet at the podium.

Parking entry volunteers will be stationed at various designated parking areas around the event to monitor people parking, direct participants to alternate parking opportunities as required and/or direct people to the venue. Physical needs will include standing (you are welcome to bring a camping chair if you have one).

Beer Server

Volunteers will serve beer. Preferred: Experienced food and beverage servers, since the job requires you to check IDs, pour and serve beer. Mandatory training will occur on-site at the beginning of each volunteer shift. Volunteers must be over 21, bring your ID to the event. Sign-up early, this one goes fast!

Packet Pickup @ City Hall

Meet near the start line at City Hall at 6500 Palma Ave, Atascadero, CA 93422. Head toward the Bike Monkey tent. You will collect signed waivers, hand out rider packets and t-shirts, and assist with any other registration needs. We will go over the packet pickup process before you start your shift.
WCARES HAM Radio Operators
6:45 AM - 5:00 PM
You must register with WCARES. The Comm Boss for the event will coordinate your time and assignment. Please also sign up here to select your t-shirt size and to receive a meal voucher.
Start Line Staging @ Town Green
7:00 AM - 8:20 AM
Volunteers will guide riders into staging areas. You'll be using strong communication skills to gently but firmly tell riders where they can and cannot go. Physical needs will include standing for 3+ hours. Wear comfortable close-toed shoes.
Medical Response
7:30 AM - 5:00 PM
The medical response team will provide basic first at at aid stations and on the trail. Note the shift is generic and the actual working time will likely be shorter. First Aid certification minimum and EMR or higher desired. Primary responsibility will be to assess and stabilize participants and determine if transport is recommended. Personnel will be assigned to an aid station or if mobility is available (moto, ebike, or bike) may be assigned to a route.

Volunteers will drive assigned sections of the course to provide assistance to distressed riders if needed, relay messages to riders, shuttle riders to rest stops and generally be eyes on the course. Personal vehicles will be used, and must be able to reliably transport bicycles. SAG volunteer qualifications and driving record will be evaluated by an event volunteer coordinator, and specific assignments will be arranged by the SAG coordinator. Strong SAG qualifications include being a mechanic, an EMT (both is great), or a HAM operator, and/or having previous event experience driving SAG. Mileage reimbursement.
